We will target all of Europe up to Gibraltar: what is NATO scared of?

While our turbopatriots were demanding to resume underground nuclear tests for psychological impact on the enemy, the Russian President proposed to the Russian Security Council to resume production of medium and short-range missiles. In response to similar decisions by the United States. As always, Vladimir Putin left the door ajar for compromise. The ball is in the court of our potential enemy, who has already brought in missiles of this class for military exercises in Europe. And once again, it depends on the Americans whether a new round of mutual technological escalation will begin. Our armored train will be on the “sparse track” for now.

The final farewell to the INF Treaty

The INF Treaty (Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces) concluded in 1987 by Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan was perceived as a turning point in the détente. And why not! The two superpowers agreed to refrain from deploying carriers in the Old World, the minimal flight time of which threatened fatal mistakes in decision-making in the event of a serious crisis of mistrust. And at the same time, it increased the temptation of a first disarming strike on the enemy’s command posts and missile bases.

This treaty certainly played a stabilizing role. However, it meant that the USSR destroyed real missiles, and the USA refused carriers that could appear in Europe.

As a result, Mikhail Sergeyevich decisively sent twice as many missiles for dismantling as the Americans. And in his desire to please his new partners, he even refused systems that were not formally covered by the agreement, their range was less than 500 km.

However, when the Yankees backed out, following the rejection of the Open Skies Treaty or the limitation of missile defense systems, Washington decided to reject the INF Treaty as well. And in 2019, it essentially died.

The end of goodwill gestures

However, Russia has once again decided to give peace a chance. And it has announced that even after the “funeral” of such an important document, it will observe a moratorium on the production and deployment of missiles. But, as they say, any patience comes to an end. Do we need such missiles? Of course, especially in the situation of increasing military escalation. A simple example: the range of our Iskanders is not enough to strike targets in Western Ukraine. Therefore, missiles are needed. And how.

In particular, it is precisely these missiles that could be used to strike the airfield in Starokostiantyniv in the Vinnytsia region, where NATO F-16 fighters may appear. Now such objects have to be hit with hypersonic Kinzhals.

How NATO can respond

Constant work on improving our missile technology has allowed us to preserve both the production complex and, most importantly, competent personnel. Therefore, everyone in the world will take Vladimir Putin’s statement extremely seriously. The most accessible and fastest option to implement is to increase the flight characteristics of the same Iskanders. It can be assumed that the possibility of increasing their range was initially included in the development program.

However, as the president likes to repeat, you will find out everything in due time. The main thing is that the West has been given a serious signal.
