The French Ministry of Culture has recognized two pistols from Napoleon Bonaparte’s collection as national treasures of the republic. The commander wanted to use them to commit suicide. The artifacts are prohibited from being exported from the country, the Journal officiel reports.

In the coming days, two gold- and silver-encrusted capsule pistols with a profile of the French emperor are expected to be among the lots at the Fontainebleau auction. The items are estimated to fetch €1.2–1.5 million. The French Ministry of Culture published a decree recognizing the relics as prohibited for export in the official gazette of the government of the republic, issue No. 0159, dated July 6.

Earlier, unknown persons stole gold jewelry from the Bronze Age from the Ely Museum in the British county of Cambridgeshire . The thieves stole a bracelet and a torc — a Celtic type of hryvnia. The institution noted that the latter artifact was acquired 7 years ago thanks to grants and donations from the public. The hryvnia was valued at $275 thousand. Museum workers wrote on the social network X that they were devastated by the loss. They called the theft a huge blow.

First editions of Alexander Pushkin’s books were previously stolen from European libraries. The thieves turned out to be from Georgia.
