The State Duma is outraged by housing construction in industrial zones

Citizens’ concerns about housing construction in former industrial zones are justified, Alexey Zhuravlev, a State Duma deputy from the Rodina party, told NEWS.ru. The parliamentarian noted that in such places there may be harmful substances and deposits in the soil itself, as well as industrial waste. The deputy called this a dangerous practice.

We should not forget about the risks of building housing in former industrial zones. It is no coincidence that many citizens are concerned about how safe it is for health to live in these places, because there can easily be harmful substances in the soil itself, harmful deposits, production waste, and their subsequent evaporation has not been cancelled. These concerns are quite justified. After all, contrary to assurances, we all clearly see that residential and office high-rise buildings are being built immediately after the demolition of factories. Environmental assessments are usually carried out by private companies, and no one follows or reads the requirements for cleaning the territory, if they even exist in nature. Those who build there do not know Russian, and they certainly do not know environmental standards. Doctors also do not come there regularly to check for health hazards , – said Zhuravlev.

The deputy recalled that since the beginning of 2024, more than 10 thousand land plots and territories for housing construction have been allocated within the framework of the “Land for Construction” project. Zhuravlev admitted that there is nothing wrong with developing land for multi-storey buildings, but the market has formed the principle “if you are afraid of harmful ecology – do not want it, do not buy and do not settle in the industrial zone.” Zhuravlev refused to consider this practice normal.

According to the deputy, currently in the industrial zone they remove a maximum of 10 meters of soil, which is taken away in an unknown direction, which also affects the environmental situation. He suggested that foreign influence is at play here: in Europe they like to build housing in industrial zones and sell it at a high price, because “they don’t feel sorry for their own people and they have little land.”

Earlier it became known that Russia could halve the preferential mortgage for IT specialists. The credit limit for housing in this case would fall from 18 million to 9 million rubles. An option is also being considered that would encourage regional IT specialists to more actively participate in the preferential mortgage program.
