Russians will have their pensions raised in 2025: who and by how much

Starting next year, working pensioners will start to have their payments indexed. The corresponding bill was adopted in the State Duma in the first reading. In 2016, the authorities put this process on hold. When will pensions be raised for elderly Russians and by how much — in the NEWS.ru material.

How many working pensioners are there in Russia

The resumption of pension indexation for working pensioners in Russia will affect 7.87 million people, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin wrote in his Telegram channel. According to him , this decision will allow experienced personnel to return to the economy and increase labor productivity.

“Every year, pensions will be increased not only for those who have already retired, but also for those who continue to work,” Volodin said.

He also noted that funds for the implementation of this initiative were found despite the 21 thousand sanctions imposed by Western countries against Russia.

How workers stopped indexing their pensions and what they did instead

Old-age or disabled pensioners who are officially employed have not had their payments indexed since 2016. From August 1 of each year, their pensions are slightly increased — by a maximum of three pension points. This year, this amount was slightly more than 350 rubles. Nevertheless, proposals to index payments have repeatedly been made in the State Duma . Both deputies from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and from United Russia have put forward such an initiative.

However, the authorities did not index the pensions of working pensioners (unlike the pensions of non-working pensioners), despite inflation. As the Pension (now Social) Fund claimed a year ago, this would have reduced the level of provision for non-working pensioners and would have required additional budget expenditures in the amount of about 500 billion rubles. But employers of working pensioners still pay contributions for such employees to the Social Fund. As a result, the latter accumulate both work experience and pension points. However, they will be taken into account in payments only when the pensioner quits. At that time, all pension indexations that he missed will also be taken into account. Considering that the main pension strategy of Russians is to ” work until death “, the budget saved significant amounts.
