Investigative Committee Investigates Information on Execution of Russian Prisoner in Ukraine

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation will investigate the article by The New York Times about the shooting of a wounded Russian prisoner by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the press service of the agency reported. The Investigative Committee employees will give a criminal-legal assessment of the incident after clarifying the circumstances.

In addition, the media is disseminating information about a crime committed against a wounded Russian prisoner of war, who was killed by a shot to the head. Investigators of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation will establish in detail the circumstances of what happened and was announced in the public space , – follows from the statement.

Earlier, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Crimes of Ukraine Rodion Miroshnik announced that the information of the American newspaper The New York Times about the murder of a Russian prisoner by the Ukrainian Armed Forces military will definitely be checked. According to him, law enforcement agencies will deal with this issue.

Before that, NYT columnist Thomas Gibbons-Neff wrote that Ukrainian fighters shot a Russian soldier who was wounded and asking for medical assistance. The soldier was killed with two shots to the stomach and head, he specified. German medic Kaspar Grosse worked in the unit where the crime took place. He was the one who witnessed the massacre and reported it to the journalist.
