Heat after a cold snap: what will the weather be like in Moscow and St. Petersburg from July 8 to 14

Next week, Moscow will see a return to heat after a 10-degree drop in temperature over the weekend, Lyudmila Parshina, head of the laboratory and research fellow at the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, told NEWS.ru. On the contrary, high temperatures are not expected in St. Petersburg from July 8 to 14 — very comfortable summer weather is expected there, according to the weather forecaster. More details about what is expected in Moscow and St. Petersburg next week are in the NEWS.ru article.

What weather is expected in Moscow from July 8 to 14

According to Lyudmila Parshina’s forecast, Moscow will have fairly calm, stable weather without any sudden changes all next week. She noted that the heat will return to the city on Monday : the air temperature will rise significantly after a noticeable cold snap on the weekend and will reach +29–31 degrees. The maximum expected next week will be 32 degrees above zero. According to Parshina’s forecast, the temperature may reach such values starting on Wednesday.

“The heat will return, but it will not be as high as last week. Nighttime temperatures in the capital will be between +10 and +15 degrees. And in the center of Moscow, of course, it will be a little warmer – +17 and +19 degrees at night,” Parshina said.

In addition, the weather forecaster predicted light short-term rains. According to her, no precipitation is expected in the capital on July 8 and 9, but on other days, starting from Wednesday, it is possible. The probability of rains is especially high in the western districts of Moscow, but they will be light and short-lived, Parshina specified.

In the European territory next week, the weather will be determined by an area of high atmospheric pressure, the forecaster added. It will remain around 754 millimeters of mercury.

The head of the Hydrometeorological Center laboratory emphasized that the water in the rivers in the capital region has warmed up significantly due to the prolonged heat. According to her, the temperature in the Moscow River and Moscow region reservoirs reaches 25 degrees. She noted that these figures are comparable to the water temperature in the Russian south.

“Almost the same as in Sochi. This is because the heat lasted for a long time. You can swim,” Parshina said.

Should we expect rain in St. Petersburg next week?

Lyudmila Parshina said that warm comfortable weather is expected in St. Petersburg from July 8 to 14. According to her forecasts, in the northern capital, starting on Monday, the air will warm up to +22–26 degrees during the day. At night, +15–17 degrees is expected. The weather forecaster noted that such temperature indicators will persist throughout the coming week.
